Home Remedies for Carpet Cleaning


Carpet cleaning is a must in order to preserve the quality of your carpets for the longest period especially if you have kids or high traffic in your home. Regular vacuuming is needed to remove dust and dirt from the carpet. But for unavoidable stains an immediate action is needed to avoid the stain seeping deeper in carpet which will make it difficult to clean it later.

Generally, when the stain occurs blot with clean cloth or paper towel the spill to remove the liquid then lay napkin or tissue to absorb the remaining liquid residue then apply the right solution in to the carpet to remove the stain.



These are ways you can clean or remove stains in your carpet:
  • Baking Soda - use to eliminate the odor caused by cigarettes smoke, food or urine, what you need to do is vacuum first the carpet then sprinkle baking soda and wait for two to three hours then vacuum again.
  • Club Soda - you can use this for water soluble stains like tea, coffee, red wine or urine. Spray  the stained part with club soda or use a white clean cloth with club soda to blot the stain. Repeat until the stain is removed.
  • Regular Detergent - you can use liquid dish detergent , mix 1 tsp of liquid dish detergent to two cups of warm water. Spray mixture of detergent  and gently blot with towel to remove the dirt
  • Vinegar and Water - can be used to eliminate urine stain and odor, mix 1/4 cup of vinegar to 1 cup of water. Apply the mixture by spraying or wet a white cloth with the solution and blot the stained part.
  • Salt - can be used in removing liquid stains or pet vomit, blot out with a paper towel as much as liquid from the stained part then put salt on the area cover it with damp cloth. Let it settle for several minutes, the salt will absorb the remaining liquid in the carpet. Then vacuum up the salt to remove the remaining stain. 
  • Isopropyl Alcohol -  use to remove stains caused by water based paints or ballpen ink
  • Ammonia Solution - use to remove stains caused by dairy, grease, egg and blood stains, what you need to do is mix 1/2 cup of water and 1tbsp. ammonia, spray it to stained area wait for 10 minutes before blotting with paper towel
  • Ice - use for gums that stick in your carpet, freeze the gum by putting a bag of ice in it then chip it.
Some reminders in doing your carpet cleaning by yourself:
  • Start it right. Choose the applicable solution to be used in cleaning your carpet.
  • Don't scrub the carpet. Try to remove the stains by blotting with the use of a towel or paper towel.Rubbing or scrubbing can damage the carpet fiber.
  • Do not pour cleaning agents directly on the stain. Use spray in apply the cleaning agent and water to the carpet or blot with a clean towel
  • Vacuum only once a week to avoid damage in carpet fiber what is necessary is to change vacuum bags to avoid spreading dirt.

The secret to this is the prompt action to clean up your carpet, the sooner you can clean up the stain the easier it can be removed.
